My Memory: The Stephanie Inn has been a pinnacle to every year for us since 2004. The whole year we talk about the Inn and how we can't wait to drive through the town on the windy road overlooking the striking haystack rock and making our turn into the drive way listening to the classical music overhead, and relishing every moment of it. I swear there is some sort of magical feeling entering the Inn, with the ocean crashing outside directly through the windows of the library, the sometimes hazy view of the water and the mixture of smells from the ocean and the fresh baked cookies in the lobby.

The first time we came it was a honeymoon gift from my parents. So we whisked away from Seattle the day after our wedding down to Cannon Beach not quite sure as to what to expect of the Stephanie Inn. When we entered we we're greeted with smiling faces and the beauty of the surroundings. By far Stephanie Inn has the best staff of any inn or hotel we've ever visited. Everyone is willing to help, and you get the feeling that it's a genuine sort of help, not just because it's their job but because they really do care about the customer.

Luckily when we arrived we we're just in time for the wine and cheese, which I believe is one of the smartest things the Inn does. It brings on a sense of relaxation rarely observed in a stressful world, getting to share a glass of wine with friends and strangers watching the passerby's on the beach. We came again for our first anniversary and were ecstatic to experience it all over again. Sometimes when you return to a place you hold in such high regard after a period of time, you start thinking it's too good to be true, and a lot of times when you do get back it isn't what you remembered. But that isn't the case with the Stephanie. Our parents had been so kind to send us here, having never been at the Stephanie themselves; we decided to send them for their anniversary. But we knew we'd be too jealous to not accompany them so we came along and brought some of their friends. That trip sticks in my mind the most.

The ability to share this place with close family and friends is truly a privilege. We were on somewhat of a tight budget at the time and had chose to stay in a cheaper room to let my parents experience the ocean room, but to our surprise when we had arrived, our rooms had been upgraded to all ocean view rooms. We were speechless, we knew the Inn was good, but didn't know it was that good. The trip was fantastic, it was the first year we were able to eat dinner at the Inn and couldn't believe we had been missing this in the previous years.

I still talk about the scallops to this day, and it was my wife's first experience with duck, which was actually a mistake because now if a fine restaurant doesn't have duck, we may have a situation. That night after dinner we took our lanterns out of our closets and took an evening stroll to Haystack Rock, where as always I like to talk about my favorite parts of the Goonies, and think of starting a petition to make a sequel. We wandered back to the Inn for a night cap and mulled over what DVD to get from the collection. All of these sorts of little things is what we talk about all year and can't wait to get back to.

The Stephanie Inn puts some sort of hold on you where you feel that once you've been here nothing can match it, nothing can live up to the beauty, the serenity and the shear elegance of the place. My wife and I strongly feel that no cruise, no resort, and no other inn, can live up to what the Stephanie Inn means to us and the memories it has given. We save our money every year to get there and we savour the memories we receive, till we drive down that road and see the sign so we can start it all over again.

Thank you so much Stephanie Inn for everything you've done for us and we will be seeing you soon. You may eventually want to name a room after us because we plan on coming there every year, for a long long time.

  Congratulations to our Runner Up:

My Memory: My husband and I took our first trip to the west coast for our honeymoon back in May 2003. Making the trek all the way from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania we were certain to make our reservations for an entire week, staying in a 3rd floor ocean front dormer suite at the Stephanie Inn. Prior to our visit, our foreknowledge about our lodging and the beach itself was limited to browsing various internet sites. To say it simply, we would have never dreamt that it could be this good. Since then, staying at the Stephanie Inn at Cannon Beach has become our definition of paradise.

We've been married for six years now, and consider ourselves blessed to have had the opportunity to return to Cannon Beach six times, staying at the Stephanie Inn a total of five times in a variety of rooms. Every time we return to the Stephanie Inn, we feel like we're "coming home". Our sixth visit to Cannon Beach came as a complete surprise to me as my husband planned an extended weekend get-a-way to the Pacific west coast to celebrate my pregnancy with our first child. During this most recent visit, our home away from home was being renovated with a whole host of exciting updates which meant that we had to stay elsewhere. Needless to say, the magical coast was breathtaking as always, however something didn't seem to feel quite the same without being able to go "home" at the end of the day. Speaking from many years of experience, in order to truly understand the essence of Cannon Beach, you must stay at the Stephanie Inn!

The welcoming staff remembers your name and is especially helpful with dinner reservations and recommendations of sites to see. The housekeeping personnel is a delight as they leave their daily well wishes for your stay at the coast. The dinners in the dining room are incomparable, the daily wine and cheese gathering and night cap are such a treat, the evening turndown makes you feel extra spoiled when you find the chocolate mints left on your pillow, and there are a whole host of special packages available to surprise your sweetheart (one of our favorites is the picnic for two which has become an annual tradition)!

Although we currently reside in Cincinnati Ohio, our hearts have been won to the west coast through the "Stephanie Inn experience". We often find ourselves lost in daydreams of the delectable complimentary breakfast buffet. During our honeymoon we were so impressed by the morning's offering that we actually recorded the display with our video camera in order to attempt to share the experience with family and friends at home. As I type these words, my taste buds are craving crisp pepper bacon and egg supreme hot from the oven, fresh baked scones, and selection f juicy fruit piled high and sprinkled with multi-colored sugar. At times, when we feel longing to return to the coast, we so our very best to bake some scones of our own, but they never seem to compare.

There are simply no words that can fully express the feeling you get when you first step foot in to the Stephanie Inn. The warmth of the blazing fire, the aroma of freshly baked cookies, and the faint sound of classical music playing in the background; it is truly a multi-sensory experience. When I find myself stressed out after a long day, I tune into my local classical station and I fell my mind immediately transported to our piece of coastal paradise know as the Stephanie Inn.

As you may have notice, I have failed to pinpoint one specific memory from our trips across the county to visit Cannon Beach. This is due to the fact that our most precious memories are all a result of the time we've been fortunate enough to spend at the Stephanie Inn. We feel as though we've discover the pot of gold at the end of the magnificent rainbow that is Cannon Beach.
